2020-2021 Beginning Virtually

Dear SEED DC Students and Families:

I hope this message finds you and your families healthy and safe during these challenging times. I am writing to share SEED DC’s re-opening plans for the 2020-2021 school year. Over the past two months, our School Leadership Team has collaborated with public health officials and school leaders from across the District of Columbia as we have carefully considered how to safely and effectively re-open school in the fall. Our top priority throughout the planning process has been the health and safety of our students, families, and staff members.

Today, Mayor Bowser announced that the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) will begin the school year in a virtual learning model. On the heels of this announcement, and based on our unwavering commitment to health and safety, SEED DC will begin the school year in a completely virtual format through at least the first quarter of the school year.

We are fully prepared to pivot back to in-person learning when conditions allow. Until then, we will provide all students with the highest quality virtual learning experience possible. Please note that the change in format has not impacted our school calendar.

The new school year will begin virtually on Monday, August 31, 2020.

We will provide additional information about the virtual learning model and the start of the school year in the weeks ahead. In the meantime, please reach out to Rashida Holman-Jones, our Director of Family and Community Engagement, if you have any questions. You can reach Ms. Holman-Jones at (202) 329-8961 or via email at [email protected].

Thank you so much for your patience, flexibility, and trust as we navigate this unprecedented public health crisis. We need your partnership now more than ever. We are excited about the new school year and we look forward to welcoming you back to school in August.

In Partnership,

Brian Rahaman
Head of School
